Dessert for breakfast? Go for it! Who says you can’t spoil yourself with a sweet treat at the start of the day? Essere Gelato, located along the small park at Hongik University (Exit 3), is one of the many cafes you can find here in Hongdae.

I was looking for a new place to have my cuppa at and Essere Gelato stood out!  This pastel coloured cafe strikes out amongst the row of shops and restaurants here.  I was instantly attracted to their front porch that was decked in summer decor.  You can opt to have a seat outdoors, under the summer sun or seek for some shade indoors.

The cafe gives off a retro vibe with its mix of minimalistic and 70s-diner inspired interior that’s accompanied with their playlist of old school hits playing in the background.

With Gelato being their main speciality, I was really amazed by their wide selection of  flavours they offered. To be more accurate, they had 26 flavours! Customers  were also given the option to choose from three different cup sizes or take a tub of Gelato home with them.  If you’re spoilt for choice and unsure of what to flavour to get, you can always approach the friendly staff for some samples

However, I didn’t opt for any of the Gelato because I was more attracted to their Strawberry Banana Crepe!

This chocolate wrapped crepe comes with whip cream and freshly sliced bananas and strawberries (my favourite combo!). I particularly liked how there was a sufficient amount of chocolate in the crepe and that it didn’t overpower the flavour of the entire crepe. It was well-balanced too and not too overly sweet (which is especially good for those who prefer something that’s not too sweet).

Besides that, I also ordered their Iced Mocha Bianca. I love my Iced Mochas, and so when I was browsing through the menu, this uniquely named cuppa caught my attention!

I was pleasantly surprised by the rich flavour of hazelnut that cam along with this drink. The taste of the coffee was not too strong and it tasted like as if I was drinking a mocha infused hazelnut latte drink. The aroma of the coffee was masked with the strong scent of hazelnut.

I’ll recommend coming here if you’re looking for a place to relax and catch up with your friends. You can also consider doing your work here because there are electrical outlets at every table. How convenient!
