Gong Meng Chan Ba Mee Kiao is a hidden restaurant for many tourists. Now that I have revealed it to you, this is a MUST EAT when you visit Mae Klong Train Market. They have been around for close to 60 years and residents in Samut Songkhram Province (where Mae Klong Train Market is located) will know them.
Unfortunately, this restaurant is not located in Bangkok itself, so if you really want to eat this, it’s a 1-hour drive from Bangkok. If you have nothing to do at Mae Klong, then I won’t suggest you to come. But if you are here to visit the train market or you are driving down to Cha-Am and Hua Hin, then I definitely recommend you to drop by to try.
Gong Meng Chan Ba Mee Kiao only sells Ba Mee Kiao and nothing else.
The noodles here are different. They make them fresh daily and are placed in the drawer, making this shop also known as “noodle in a drawer”. It’s slightly different from the usual Ba Mee you eat in Bangkok as this version is more QQ and softer to bite. The pork (char siew) is roasted to perfection giving it a nice caramelised taste, which I prefer as compared to those thin and dry pork slices at some Ba Mee stalls.
This is the view outside the restaurant. It’s a few steps away from Mae Klong Railway Station.
