Hungry Nerd is a family-friendly, affordable steakhouse which all western food lovers should check out. They are conveniently located right next to BTS Ratchathewi (Exit 2, just 1 stop away from Siam BTS Station, close to Coco Walk, Asia Hotel and VIE Hotel) and open from 11:30am all the way to midnight! Now you know where to go if you are feeling hungry late at night!

Walking around Bangkok, you would have noticed many affordable steak restaurants around and Hungry Nerd sets themselves apart by serving fresh chilled meat (not frozen). The name “Hungry Nerd” came about because the founders were so in love with steak and they studied obsessively about it. The obsession is like being a nerd, taking it seriously down to the very small details.

Well, the obsession is good because, with quality steak grilled the right way, the deliciousness ultimately brings happiness to the customers! Chef Bas, also a partner of Hungry Nerd, is the team coach for Thailand’s various award-winning national teams which take part in International Culinary Competitions! With him creating the menu, we can be assured of a quality meal.

Here’s Hungry Nerd’s signature pork chop steak on their live-fire grill, which makes use of lava rocks to ensure perfect temperature-control.

All their meats are marinated in-house (not as common a practice as you would expect), resulting in a distinctive flavour unique to Hungry Nerd.

Giant Grilled Combo [399฿] – This is what we highly-recommend because it’s extremely value-for-money. It consists of Spicy Chicken Steak, Pork Loin Steak, Beef Steak, Breaded Fish Fillet and 2 German Sausages. It also comes with 3 signature sauces specially chosen for the different steaks.

The special Hungry Nerd sauce (curry and onion base), our favourite, goes with the German sausages (and fries and everything else). The tartare sauce goes with the breaded fish fillet and the black pepper sauce for the other meats.

Check out the juicy Spicy Chicken Steak [109฿]! If I’m alone, I will happily order a plate of this!

hungrynerd-cheesetoast

This is their signature cheese toast served with every main dish!

If you like more manly cuts, check out their Pork Chop Steak [169฿]! It’s a thick juicy slab, bone-in!

Hungry Nerd is also popular for their variety of sauces because Thai locals love their dips. With such quality sauces, you probably won’t need your ketchup here.

hungrynerd-bacongermansausagescheese

Don’t leave without trying their signature appetiser – Bacon-wrapped German Sausage with Cheese [109฿]! This dish is full of signature Hungry Nerd sauce and gooey melted cheese. Together with quality German sausage, it’s irresistible.

Hungry Nerd is open till 12am and their low beer price is a pleasant surprise. Beer lovers, don’t miss it!

We heard a lot about Hungry Nerd from the locals and after trying the food ourselves, we now understand why it’s so popular (they are 1 of the top 15 restaurants near BTS Stations according to Wongnai) – the reasonable pricing and friendly staff making this place a draw!

If there’s anything we don’t like about Hungry Nerd, it’s probably the lack of branches throughout the city, though you will be happy to know that apart from Ratchathewi, they also have branches at Seacon Square (steps from Talad Rodfai Srinakarin) and Central Westgate.
