Besides the fantastic food and shopping, Thailand offers many opportunities to create lasting memories through unique experiences. On my recent trip exploring Bangkok and Hua Hin, supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, I looked for activities and places that offered something a bit different from the usual tourist trail. These “Must Seek” recommendations focus on interesting experiences in both the busy capital and the relaxed coastal town of Hua Hin.

Interesting Experiences in Bangkok:

Dinner with a View (Bangkok Bustaurant):

This is quite a novel concept – dining on a double-decker bus while touring Bangkok’s landmarks. The Bangkok Bustaurant drives past key sights like the Grand Palace and Old Town as you have your meal. It’s an efficient way to combine some sightseeing with a meal, especially in the evening when the city is lit up. Booking ahead is probably a good idea for this one.

Riverside Relaxation (Salil Hotel Riverside):

Staying along the Chao Phraya River can be a nice way to experience Bangkok. We stayed at the Salil Hotel Riverside, and having views of the river traffic was quite pleasant. It provides a calmer atmosphere compared to being right in the city center, and it serves as a comfortable base for exploring or just relaxing by the water.

An Urban Escape (Let’s Relax Onsen):

must seek - lets relax onsen spa

Bangkok’s heat and energy can be tiring. If you need a break, the Let’s Relax Onsen and Spa (Thonglor and Lumphini branch) offers a Japanese-style spa experience. You can soak in various mineral baths, use the sauna, and generally unwind for a few hours. Adding a Thai massage afterwards can make it even more relaxing. It’s a good option for recharging during your trip.

Hua Hin’s Charming Spots & Unique Finds:

After Bangkok, we travelled down to Hua Hin (a straightforward 2-3 hour drive), where the atmosphere is noticeably more laid-back. Being a beach city, staying near the coast really enhances the Hua Hin experience, and it’s something I’d recommend seeking out.

On this trip, our base was the Anantara Hua Hin resort. Staying beachside allowed for very relaxing mornings – it was lovely to wake up and take an easy stroll along the beachfront, perhaps catching the sunrise, before enjoying a substantial breakfast spread. It definitely sets a relaxed tone for the day before heading out to explore the other attractions Hua Hin has to offer.

From that relaxed base, here are some other worthwhile experiences in the area:

A Vineyard Visit (Monsoon Valley Vineyard):

It might be surprising to find a vineyard in Thailand, but Monsoon Valley Vineyard near Hua Hin is a well-established one. Set in rolling hills, it’s a pleasant place to spend an afternoon. You can learn about their wines, do a tasting, have a meal at their restaurant with nice views, or even cycle around the grounds. It’s a relaxing and rather unique outing for the region.

A Picturesque Railway Station (Hua Hin Train Station):

must seek - hua hin train terminal

Even if you’re not travelling by train, the Hua Hin Train Station is a notable landmark. As one of Thailand’s oldest stations, its charming architecture, particularly the iconic Royal Waiting Room, makes it a popular spot for photos and a nod to the country’s railway history. It’s easy to visit as it’s located right in town.

Themed Zone at the Night Market (Palio @ Hua Hin Night Market):

must seek - hua hin night market

Within the popular Hua Hin Night Market, there’s a new section called Palio. It offers a different visual backdrop compared to the rest of the market and can be a fun spot for photos while you’re exploring the various food and shopping stalls nearby. If you prefer something more artsy, check out Cicada Night Market during the weekends.

Historic Seaside Palace (Mrigadayavan Palace):

must seek - mrigadayavan palace

For a glimpse into history, the Mrigadayavan Palace (Palace of Love & Hope) is worth visiting. Located by the sea, this former royal summer palace is constructed largely from teakwood in a distinctive Thai-Victorian style. Walking through the airy, interconnected pavilions is quite peaceful, and it offers insight into the area’s royal heritage. It’s also quite photogenic.

Bangkok and Hua Hin offer a good mix of experiences beyond the obvious. From interesting city activities to exploring Hua Hin’s historical sites, natural surroundings, and unique market features, there are many ways to make your trip more memorable.

Do consider some of these “Must Seek” spots to add an extra dimension to your travels in Thailand.
