Being a Thai-Food Blogger who writes a lot about Bangkok, many have asked me where my favourite Thai restaurant in Singapore is. For those who don’t know, I’m actually a Singaporean who lives in Singapore but I frequent Bangkok and Thailand.

I love Thai food and so I will also go around to eat Thai food, even in Singapore. Sad to say, what is offered in Singapore does not taste authentic enough and the quality is  not consistent at all. Today, I shall reveal my favourite Thai restaurant in Singapore to everyone. As you can already see, it’s Nakhon Kitchen. I frequent Nakhon ever since they opened 5 years ago in Kovan.

But if you want to enjoy the good, authentic Thai food, be prepared to queue for at least 30 minutes during peak hours. That is how popular it is. The long queue is definitely because of its cheap prices and authenticity. The best part: no GST and service charge!

So after eating this for 5 years, has the quality and standard of the food dropped?
I am glad that the food quality and taste remained consistently good but also disappointed that prices have increased even though the portion has been reduced. I have introduced this place to many of my close friends and they love it so much that they return to Nakhon.

What are my favourite dishes?

Here are my favourites from Nakhon and it also seems to be the specialties of Nakhon. Of course, there were some hit and misses which you will read about it below.

nakhonkitchen_honeychickenHoney Chicken

[S$6]  – Crispy and tender chicken fried with sweet honey sauce

nakhonkitchen_garlicporkDeep Fried Pork with Garlic [S$6]  – Tender pork slices with thai spices and garlic

nakhonkitchen_pandanchickenPandan Leaf Chicken [S$6]  – The chicken was tender but lacking in flavour. Not the best pandan chicken I had in Singapore, my favourite one is found in another restaurant which you will know soon.

nakhonkitchen_tomyummilkTom Yum with Coconut Milk [S$6] – The classic Thai Soup to order. The level of spicy and sour is well balanced. Most places serve Tom Yum with Coconut Milk but over at Nakhon, I recommend the Clear version below.

nakhonkitchen_tomyumclearTom Yum Clear  [S$6] – This version is without the Coconut Milk. But at the same time, this is spicier and in return feels more Shiok!

nakhonkitchen_greencurryGreen Curry  [S$8] – The green curry here is well balanced, not too watery or too thick. Perfect dish to go with your white rice.

nakhonkitchen_padthaiPad Thai [S$5] – Having tried the best pad thais in Bangkok, I’m sad to say that I still can’t find one in Singapore that matches the standard in Thailand. All I can say, this is ok but not something I will order here. In some other restaurants, it’s ridiculous to find  Pad Thai fried with ketchup.

nakhonkitchen_mangostickyriceMango Sticky Rice [S$5] – Sad to say, it’s not to my liking. If they are willing to tweak it, it will be good. The one I had, the rice was lumpy, the mango was not juicy and worst of all, the coconut milk they used was totally off!

nakhonkitchen_thaitapiocaSweet Tapioca [S$3] – For desserts in Nakhon, I rather go with sweet tapioca because the formula is just right. It is sweet, soft and warm, a good ending to your delicious meal.

There are many Thai drinks for you to choose here. The Thai Milk Tea is a little diluted for me, so I will recommend some other interesting Thai drinks here.

nakhonkitchen_thaisoyamilkThai Soy Milk

nakhonkitchen_fantadrinkThai Fanta

nakhonkitchen_oishidrinkOishi Bottled Drinks – Oishi is like the “Pokka” of Thailand and their drinks are really good. I will definitely get them from 7-11 when I’m in Bangkok.

Writing this post makes me extremely hungry. In conclusion, I would say that Nakhon does well in their main dishes giving you a delicious meal. I would generally avoid the individual one-person dishes such as Pad Thai. Their main dishes goes better with Thai White Rice.

Where can you find Nakhon Kitchen?

In 2014, they expanded quickly and to  date, you can find Nakhon in Bedok, Ang Mo Kio, Pasir Panjang, Marine Parade Central and Holland Village. I really hope with the expansion, the food consistency will remain. For detailed addresses of various outlets, please scroll down.
