Stepping into TAAN Restaurant on the 25th Floor of Siam@Siam Design Hotel Bangkok, a stone’s throw from National Stadium BTS Station, one’s first impression has to be the impeccable décor and panoramic city view. Arrive early, and your dinner will be blessed with a stunning sunset leading into classy romantic night vibes.
Then again, it’s not our first time here. We dined at TAAN when it just opened end 2018, and while the food was good, it lacked the finesse required to be truly considered fine dining. However, nearly 4 years down the road (with a long COVID-enforced break in between), TAAN is still here, as is the talented Chef Monthep Kamolsilp. Not only did TAAN let go of the confusing “Hyperlocal” tag, Chef Monthep pushed on with his passion to support local farmers throughout the country and motivated his team to a much higher level. This current “PRODE” menu is their effort to showcase excellent Thai produce with uncommon local cuisines and wisdom.
Walking through the 9-course menu was culinary enjoyment and education in equal measure. While typical restaurants will please their guests with Tom Yum and Massaman curry, Chef Monthep chose to push boundaries with dishes like “Run Juan”, an ancient clear soup recipe made with shrimp paste and “Golae Seafood”, a curry paste more familiar in the South of Thailand. We also loved the execution of “Pla Bu”, a fillet of beautiful Goby with crispy skin scale-on served with super rustic grilled bamboo shoot and mushroom sauce, and how Chef used “Black Chicken Congee” as the final main course. It was a demonstration of his self-confidence in his unorthodox methods to balance creativity with authenticity.

Overall, we are extremely satisfied with this brand new TAAN experience, and are very proud of its improvements over the years. At 2,890++THB, it definitely presents itself as one of the most value-for-money dinners in town in its category, especially if you also consider its location and proximity to public transport. What are you waiting for?
