Bustling with people of all races, genders, and ages the Yeouido Seoul Bamdokkaebi Night Market (여의도 서울 밤도깨비 야시장) is definitely a popular place. The bright lights, sounds from the performances, mouth-watering scents of food from the numerous food trucks, and the beautifully handcrafted goods that catch the eyes are what define this market. I came here to grab some good food and here are 5 items I recommend you get!
#1 Mr. Truck 미스터 트럭
One of the most popular food trucks in this market, Mr. Truck has a long line of people waiting to taste its signature steak! It is chopped up into small bits and has a side of nachos topped with cheese and corn. As this was my first choice of the night, I’d say you it should be for you as well because the line gets ridiculously long! As a meat lover, this dish was a good start to my night of more food yet to come!
Chopped Steak – 8,000₩
#2 The Big Island 더 빅 아일랜드
Located right next to Mr. Truck, The Big Island is another tasty, steady seller. They serve a dish of vegetables, chopped steak, shrimp, and, of course, a piece of pineapple to give off the tropical vibe! Get one dish and you can enjoy beef, seafood, and fruit, all at once.
Hawaiian Pineapple Shrimp – 8,000₩
#3 1PY Kitchen #TOKYO (1PY 키친 #동경)
With a simply designed truck, Tokyo Steak is another popular destination. The smell of its marinated steak sizzling on the grill will make you turn your head. It is served on rice and their special sauce is used to add finesse to the dish. As I take in a spoonful of rice and steak, I was surprised by its mild spiciness. It was excellent for its relatively cheaper price amongst the food trucks.
Steak with Rice – 6,000₩
#4 YongChef Truck 용 셰프 트럭
The last thing I looked for and ate that night was YongChef Truck’s pork belly sandwich. It’s a decent sized sandwich with a thick chunk of pork belly. As you bite into the sandwich, you can taste the mixture of their special sauce, pork belly, and all sorts of vegetables. Be careful, try to keep it in the paper that they serve it in and grab tissue, as it can get quite messy!
Pork Belly Sandwich – 5,500₩
#5 Today Mojito 오늘 모히또
After walking around for a while and eating a ton of delicious food, I was desperate to look for an ice cold beverage. Next to me, I found something that caught both my eyes and ears. This food truck was distinct from the others with its neon “Mojito” light, pictures posted all over the truck, and the sweet, nostalgic tunes of the 1990’s playing from its speakers. Their non-alcoholic mojitos come in four flavors: lime mint, raspberry, kiwi, and passion fruit. If you’re looking for something to quench your thirst, I recommend you this spot!
Mojito – 4,900₩
Other locations include Dongdaemun Design Plaza (동대문 디자인 플라자) and Mokdong Stadium (목동운동장). If you’re in Seoul and near any of the night markets, then you should check these places out!
