Being a content creator, we do quite abit of live video recording on our mobile phones with FB Live. It also leads to many complains that the video was shaky. As always, we do our best to provide the best experience to our readers and since then, we have been on the lookout for a good gimbal / stabilizer for our mobile phone.
A simple search online will lead us to DJI Mobile and Zhiyun-Tech Smooth 3 for being the market leaders in updated mobile phone stabilizer. Here, I would like to do a quick shoutout to Zhiyun-Tech for sending us the latest Smooth 3 to test.
We brought our stabilizer with us to Thai Festival 2017 in Singapore as we wanted to do a FB Live! Do check out the video below.

We were impressed with how steady the video was and it also garnered praises from our fans too!
Doing live video wasn’t enough! I’m sure this stabilizer can be put to better use. With mobile phones having such good cameras, we decided to do a video using only Zhiyun-Tech Smooth 3 with Huawei P10! We were amazed with the results, especially during good sunlight.
Build Quality
Zhiyun-Tech Smooth 3 is full aluminium and provides a very sturdy feel and strong grip. Their earlier gimbals were made of plastic so that probably didn’t work well with those who wants a better quality gimbal.
Battery Life
Firstly, the 14-hour battery life was impressive. This is probably the highest battery life offered by any mobile phone stabilizer in the market now! I no longer have to worry about battery when I’m out for the whole day shooting!
Charge your mobile phone on the go!
Zhiyun-Tech Smooth 3 also allows your to charge your mobile phone on the go because what’s the point of having a 14-hour battery life if you don’t have any battery on your mobile phone?
Zhiyun’s app allows you to do many other features but for this testing, we only made use of the native camera app on my Huawei P10!
Shoot in both portrait and landscape modes
Which mode do you usually shoot in? For me, I prefer landscape mode but I also know that many video apps such as Instagram Stories or Snapchat are mostly for portrait modes and that works on Smooth 3 too!
